And I believe, I have found the answer. Teaching at Lugansk State Pedagogical University I observed many kinds of students. I tried to guess how many of them had what it takes to take the challenge of the competition and win.
Through my observations I have learned that those who won were not necessarily the smartest. Neither were they the students with the best English skills or top grades. They would keep on applying, but somewhere in the middle of the process they would make one crucial mistake that ruined their chances, and which they could have easily avoided. To say more, I was a victim of this problem myself. Four years ago, I participated in Canada Ukrainian Parliamentary Program, I got to the final and made a series of typical mistakes, which determined my fate in favor of my competitors.
I have seen it all and now it is time for me to share my knowledge. Based on my experience, I pronounce that practically anybody, who possesses basic English speaking and writing skills is capable of being a winner.
